Richard Wagner: Culture as Power; Wagner and the political and cultural situation in 19th century Germany
Frits Boterman, Professor of Modern German History at the University of Amsterdam, considers cultural and historic components of greater impact for German history than socio-economic and political developments. Politics and culture, spirit and power have been indissolubly bound together over the last two centuries. Great men of culture, such as Wagner, were of great importance for the building of modern German history.
