Richard Wagner: Self Promotion and the making of a Brand, a lecture by Nicholas Vazsonyi
Monday 24 June
Goethe Institut, Herengracht 470, Amsterdam

Lecture Prof. Nicholas Vazsonyi - 'Richard Wagner: Self Promotion and the making of a Brand'.

Nicholas Vazsonyi is an internationally renowned Wagner connoisseur and a Germanist at the University of South Carolina (USA). Among other works, he published the book "Richard Wagner - The Making of a Brand" in the series "Wagner Discussion" (Volume 7), published by Königshausen & Neumann.

This summer, at the initiative of the WS Düsseldorf  and the Wagnergenootschap Nederland, he will make a short tour of 5 German Wagner societies and his tour will start in Amsterdam.

His lecture is a reflection of his study in which he investigated how 19th century composers were almost dependent on themselves to generate fame for their work. In one way or another they had to 'market' themselves. They were certainly not all good at it, although composers like Verdi and Wagner were highly successful.

The lecture will be in English.
