Opening of the 2016 Festival Season in Bayreuth
Welcome to today’s premiere of the Bayreuth Festival from Horst Eggers, President of the International Association of Wagner Societies (RWVI)
Ladies and gentlemen, Presidents of Wagner Societies, dear Wagner friends,

From 25 July until 28 of August the eyes of the Wagner world are once again focused on Bayreuth.  The premiere for 2016 is the new production of Richard Wagner’s last opera “Parsifal”, directed by Uwe Eric Laufenberg and conducted by Hartmut Haenchen.

Although this year’s premiere is somewhat reduced, taking place without the usual red carpet and state reception due to the recent events in Würzburg , Munich and Ansbach, the International Association of Wagner Societies nevertheless wishes the management of the Bayreuth Festival and the entire Festival ensemble, the Wagner societies and all Wagner fans worldwide a beautiful and successful Festival season.

Those who cannot come to Bayreuth this year in person will have the opportunity to experience the Festival live . Some performances will be shown on Sky " pay-TV " and in selected cinemas.

“The best poet is he who conceals
The musician can make the concealed heard”

This quote of Wagner’s came to me this morning at the traditional “grave singing”, as members of the Festival choir and the orchestra attuned those present to the frame of mind for the premiere of Parsifal.

With heartfelt greetings from Bayreuth

Your President,
Horst Eggers
