Levi conducted at the Bayreuth Festival over a period of 12 years and was highly regarded by Wagner. His career, however, was never easy due to his faith, which he would not abandon.
The city of Karlsruhe, where Levi was once Kapellmeister has celebrated Levi by the re-naming of a city square in his honour.
This took place formally at the premiere of the Badisches' Staatstheater's new opera Wahnfried on January 28th.
