An Update from Opera North on their forthcoming Parsifal
Opera North regret that they have had to postpone their planned 2021 tour of the semi-staged Parsifal
Having attended the wonderful evening of music we enjoyed last October at our event, Of Magic and Miracles..., where we announced our plans for the seminal production of Parsifal, I wanted to write to you ahead of a public announcement which will be made this week.

As Covid-19 restrictions continue to be imposed, it has become clear that the scale of musical forces needed to mount Parsifal now seems impossible under any form of social distancing, which may last well into the new year. It is therefore with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to postpone Parsifal. This said, our intention remains resolute that the production will happen in a future year.

Whilst hugely disappointing, we still plan to honour the tour dates and replace Parsifal with an evening of music from Wagner's Ring, conducted by Richard Farnes and using Jonathan Dove's orchestrations. One way or another, we are determined to fill the nation's concert halls and theatres with Wagner's magnificent music next spring! We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.

With best wishes,

Richard Mantle
