The Icelandic Wagner Society went to Naples to see the Walküre in Teatro di San Carlo.
On April 19-25, the Richard Wagner Association Iceland, with its chairman Selma Gudmundsdottir, went on a tour  to Naples in Italy. 37 members took part. The main goal of the trip was to see the Valkyrie at the Teatro di San Carlo on  April 20th. The performance was a great success in this probably most beautiful and oldest opera house in the world (opened in 1737). In all roles prominent singers, Jonas Kaufmann, Vida Mikneviciute, John Relyea, Okka van der Damerau, Christopher Maltman. Conductor Dan Ettinger and stage director Federico Tiezzi. This was a revival of an older production, now performed five times. The day after, Maria Joao Pires gave a wonderful piano recital in the same hall. The house was also sold out that evening. The remaining days were spent with day trips to the Amalfi Coast (Positano, Amalfi, Ravello with Villa Rufolo and Klingsor's Magic Garden) and Capri and in the evening the group enjoyed the italian cuisine in Naples' restaurants.  Some also visited Pompeii. The weather was nice and all fellow travelers were overjoyed! Who could ask for more!
