London WS - Judith Cabaud on Mathilde Wesendonck

6.30pm for 7pm  |   Wednesday 15th May 2019  |   Tickets £20 (£5 Students and under 30s)
Swedenborg Hall, Barter Street, London WC1A 2TH

Author Judith Cabaud will present her book, Isolde's Dream, a Life of Mathilde Wesendonck

She will outline how this book emerged from a long history of untruths in the official legend of the Wagner myth and its confrontation with reality. Documents give factual answers and the unpublished poetry of Mathilde reveal a completely different person from the one Wagner’s biographers have described. The impossible love affair between Richard and Mathilde is an untold story of complicity and elevation of thought which ranks the couple not far from the hero and heroine of Tristan and Isolde. All these elements and many more did become the primary inspiration for a major part of the Master’s work.
